Pneumatic Conveyor

Image

A pneumatic conveyor is a system that uses compressed air or vacuum to move dry, granular, or powdered materials through a pipeline. Pneumatic conveyors are used in factories and plants to move materials from one place to another.

Works

- A fan or blower is connected to a series of flexible pipes

- Compressed air or vacuum is used to move the material

- The material is conveyed through the pipeline to a receiver

- The receiver disengages the material from the carrier gas

What it's used for

- Moving materials like flour, cement, sugar, and plastic pellets

- Loading and unloading industrial machines

- Distributing powders at multiple points

- Separating dust

Advantages

- Safe: Fewer moving parts and low maintenance make pneumatic conveyors safer for operators

- Compact: Pipelines are easy to route and take up less space than mechanical systems

- Flexible: Can be designed to route around bends and corners

- Upgradable: Can be easily modified with design changes

- Dust free: Material stays inside the enclosed pipeline, so there's no spillage or leakage

What to consider

- The right system depends on the material and distance being conveyed

- Moist or heavy materials are not suitable for pneumatic conveying
